Long-term projects
Building project of six permanent classrooms and storage rooms for the Highschool of Amoussou Kope Village (Togo)
Dates of realization : from August to October 2009.
Beneficiary : Amoussou Kope Community Highschool.
Location : Amoussou Kope Village, Agou Prefecture, 80 Km (50 miles) North-West of Lome.
Amoussou Kope Village population : about 3,800 locals.
After the volunteers of AS-OISOU carried out a renovation mission in July of 2007, we created strong relations with the village community. For this reason, they entrusted us the task of building six permanent classrooms in their high school.
Amoussou Kope Highschool, which was inaugurated in October of 2004, was constructed with temporary materials (like tree trunks and leaves). According to a report from local authorities students going into high school choose to drop out because of the lack of facilities, or their deterioration. But other factors also push the young to stop their studies.
Indeed, the attendance of classes is affected directly by the results of harvests, and by the needs for field work. A bad harvest often leads a part of the students to give up school. Those who actually manage to reach the last year of middle school give up before or after their graduation exam because of the prohibitive costs.
For all these reasons, and to encourage the young to continue their studies, we work in close collaboration with the Village Committee for the Development on the construction of six permanent classrooms and storage rooms giving secure space to stock the Highschool equipment and supplies. To be constructed with brick walls, wood frames, and a tiled roof.
